I might suggest, though, that any scenario under which Huckabee makes his comeback by winning the red states probably should have started tonight in Virginia.

Anon--I hadn't noticed that two of the four listed had been assassinated. Creepy, though obviously coincidental. (Actually, if you count Harding, three of the four died in office.) In any event, it's hard to imagine a brokered GOP convention this year, especially after tonight's results. The Man Who Was Never Bornhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06005018298798797316noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9215371037212931087.post-40126999231987152172008-02-12T20:46:00.000-08:002008-02-12T20:46:00.000-08:00The math has changed since the previous post, so t...The math has changed since the previous post, so the odds of getting the nomination are ever getting smaller for Huck.

Nevertheless, the Brokered convention angle is interesting. And it might be also interesting to note that two of the four presidents listed as receiving the nomination via a brokered convention were assasintated in office. I guess that should be some history Huck should sleep on.. be careful what you wish for.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9215371037212931087.post-20534142342960429632008-02-12T14:59:00.000-08:002008-02-12T14:59:00.000-08:00To all of you who say Huckabee has no chance.. sup...To all of you who say Huckabee has no chance.. support McCain now... OHH REALLY? See Below.

Even if Mike Huckabee is not the outright winner of a majority of the total of the primary vote nationwide, he can still win the nomination through a brokered convention. A brokered convention occurs when none of the candidates receives a clear majority of the delegates going into the convention. This has happened several times in the Republican primary process.

Path to win through a Brokered Convention:

1) McCain can be prevented from winning 1191 delegates.

According to RealClearPolitics McCain has 720 delegates & still needs 471 to win.
That means he has to get 44% of the remaining delegates to secure 1191.

2) So Huckabee needs to win 57% of the remaining delegates to force this to a Brokered Convention.

3) On Super Tuesday McCain got 42% of the vote in Blue States and only 26% in Red States. Over 60 % of McCain's delegates have come from Blue States. Do we really want our candidate picked by States that we have very little chance of winning in the Fall?

4) Remaining delegates: Red States = 711 [ 70.5% ], Blue States = 297 [ 29.5% ]

RED States Left as of 2/8/08:
=====================
47 Louisiana
39 Kansas
63 Virginia
140 Texas
88 Ohio
39 Mississippi
69 North Carolina
57 Indiana
33 Nebraska
45 Kentucky
32 Idaho
32 New Mexico
27 South Dakota

5) Every time Republicans have gone to a Brokered Convention we have won!

Abraham Lincoln ? 3rd Ballot - Won Presidency
Rutherford Hayes ? 7th Ballot - Won Presidency
James Garfield - 36th Ballot - Won Presidency
Warning Harding ? 10th Ballot ? Won Presidency

6) Conservatives Unite! There is still time! Win the Red States and we go to the convention for a discussion about what it means to be a republican.

We are confident that these facts will bring Huckabee supporters encouragement and hope. It is not over!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
